Google Error - Invalid Login 534-5.7.9 Application-Specific Password Required

title: "Google Error - Invalid Login: 534-5.7.9 Application-Specific Password Required"
description: Resolve the Google 534-5.7.9 error when connecting Gmail to SalesBlink via SMTP/IMAP by generating an app password.

Overview

This error appears when you try to connect a Gmail account to SalesBlink via SMTP/IMAP and your Google account has 2-Step Verification (2FA) enabled. Google blocks third-party apps from using your regular password in this case — you need to generate a dedicated App Password instead.

Step 1: Make sure 2-Step Verification is enabled

App passwords can only be created if 2FA is active on your account.

  1. Go to your Google Account Security Settings.
  2. Under How you sign in to Google, click 2-Step Verification.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to enable it if it is not already.

Step 2: Create an app password

  1. Go directly to https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords (you may be asked to sign in again).
  2. In the App Name field, enter a recognisable name, for example SalesBlink.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Google will display a 16-character password — copy it immediately, as it will not be shown again.

Learn more from Google.

  1. Go to Outreach → Email Senders in SalesBlink.
  2. Edit the Gmail account showing the error.
  3. In the password field, paste the App Password you just generated (not your regular Gmail password).
  4. Save and reconnect.

Important:

  • If you change your Google account password, your app password will be automatically revoked — generate a new one and reconnect in SalesBlink.
  • If you cannot find the App Passwords option, your account may be managed by a Google Workspace admin — contact your admin to enable this feature.
  • The app password is shown only once. If you lose it, generate a new one.
